Art & Design
At Sutton Veny, our art curriculum has been carefully designed to inspire creativity, foster self-expression and develop artistic skills alongside a lifelong love of creative learning. Through engaging activities, pupils explore different mediums, techniques and concepts which lays a strong foundation for their artistic journey.
The curriculum is structured to provide skill development, creativity and art appreciation. We aim to nurture the creative spirit in every child, allowing pupils to explore, experiment and express themselves through art.
Art is divided into key areas of learning; sketching, painting, mixed media and digital art. Pupils will discover different artists and use their work as inspiration for their own art pieces.
Our school values are embedded throughout the curriculum:
Friendship – Art is often a collaborative journey, we encourage pupils to work together, share ideas and support one another on their journey.
Peace – Our curriculum promotes themes of harmony and understanding. Through art our pupils learn to express their feelings and perspectives of the work of other artists along with their own.
Courage – We empower pupils to take creative risks and embrace new challenges, exploring a variety of art medium. We support pupils to help build their confidence and resilience and have an understanding of art.
In Term 5 the whole school embarks on an Arts Week. Each year we develop a theme with each class focussing on an artist. The week is filled with wonderful opportunities for the children to engage and explore arts such as sketching, painting, sculpture, dance, poetry and many more! The week ends with an open school event, giving pupils the opportunity to share their work with their families as well as the enjoyment of looking at the work produced by other children.
