Early Morning Work

For the first half-an-hour of the day, the class focus on developing key skills in English and maths. The children work through a daily maths task to improve their mental agility. They will also have a handwriting task, which has a spelling, grammar or punctuation focus. This is also when children are heard read individually and also in guided groups. 
 
English

English and spelling is taught daily and develops reading, writing and speaking and listening skills. During the following  terms, the children will be focusing on the following texts:
  • Explanation texts
  • Short warning stories
  • Narrative
Maths

Maths is taught daily from Monday to Friday.  Nelson Class will develop their mathematical reasoning skills by applying their mathematical knowledge and understanding to a range of different areas of maths.
 
As a mathematician, the children will be focusing on both reasoning and problem solving skills across the different  topics in maths.
 
RE
In the following two terms, the class will be learning about the belief of Islam, Humanism and the Christian concept- Gospel. 
 
History
The children will be learning about the Ancient Civilisations of the Mayans and the Aztecs.
 
Computing
The children will be creating E-Books and multi-media presentations.
  

 PE

The class will having PE on three Monday afternoons in June. The rest of the term, the class will be having athletics on a Tuesday. They will also be having PE on a Wednesday afternoon for enrichment. The Monday PE slots are on the timetable. 
 
PSHE

PSHE is taught each term based on discussion, P4C and circle times. The children are given the opportunity to empathise with others and their emotions as well as coming to terms with and verbalising their own feelings and opinions. The children will be learning about money matters, learning 1st Aid and looking at relationships as they transition to secondary school. 

 

Science 

The children will be learning about the circulatory system in the following two terms.
 
Music
Nelson class will be learning the Ukulele and using other instruments alongside this for composing. They will also be having voice tuition in term six.
